‘Limestone and Silk Thread’ is a journey into the freedom of the imagination and the layers of history. The works in this concert are united by the composers’ desire to peer into the past in order to discover something entirely new and free.

Bohuslav Martinů

Benjamin Britten
Phantasy Quartet
Caroline Shaw
Limestone & Felt
Ernő Dohnányi
Serenade Op. 10
In the works of Ernő Dohnányi and Benjamin Britten, a traditional march rhythm serves as the musical framework. In Dohnányi’s work, it brings the Serenade to life with classical splendour, whilst in Britten’s Phantasy Quartet it emerges quietly from the silence, creating the illusion of a spontaneous, improvised fantasy.
Bohuslav Martinů and Caroline Shaw, for their part, turn their attention to the forms of the Renaissance and early music. Martinů’s Madrigals imbue the violin and viola with the ethereal spirit of a polyphonic choir. Shaw’s ‘Limestone & Felt’ plays with acoustic contrasts: the hard, resonant pizzicato textures of limestone and the soft, lingering tones of felt, which whisper secrets from centuries past.
Exhibition Centre WeeGee
WeeGee Live x Tapiola Sinfonietta is a collaboration that began in autumn 2025, in which the musicians of the Tapiola Sinfonietta take chamber music concerts they have designed themselves beyond the walls of Tapiola Hall. The series will feature three concerts during the 2026–2027 season, each reflecting the themes and content chosen by its organisers. The concerts are one-hour programmes with no interval. Before the concert, you can visit the exhibitions at WeeGee at a discounted rate (€16) with your concert ticket. The Delicatessen restaurant is open before the concert.
